Efendy and it’s team, reflecting the spirit of Somer Chef

I know very well that there is no need to explain or introduce Somer Sivrioğlu.

When he took the stage at the Adana Taste Festival about 2 months ago, he heard people screaming, people trying to climb on stage to hold his hand, and people saying “Will you throw me your sweaty t-shirt?” backstage. When I saw people shouting, I thought, “This is what it means to be famous and loved at the same time.”

Looking around, most people here are lounging, chatting and grazing. Which is exactly what head chef Somer Sivrioglu wants you to do.

The walls in the downstairs dining area are covered in Turkish comic book posters (it’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Süpermenler!), there’s an open fire and the big wooden tables are pretty much made for a big group of friends sharing tasty eats. They even do Turkish breakfast on the weekends.

Balmain’s Efendy gets a trendy makeover

With Balmain’s Efendy intermittently closed, rumours have been circulating about the future of the innovative Turkish restaurant.

The rub is Efendy is relaunching after Easter, with downstairs remodelled as a meze bar serving Istanbul street food, including ”deboned sheep’s head”.
